More About the Buzludzha Monument

In the Balkan Range, over Kazanlak, the Buzludzha peak is where the monument commemorating the Bulgarian socialist party first congress was built in 1981. The monument was lavishly decorated within; on the pylon rising over the main body a five-pointed start shone. Inside, the mosaics depicted diverse period of socialist Bulgaria. Frequented by tourists, regularly, it was a famed sight.

After the start of the new period in Bulgaria, after 1989, it was broken into, the windows were broken, and mosaics impaired. But the peak is regularly visited on August 2, when the socialist party members hold gatherings to commemorate the founding of the party.

Two roads lead to the monument. One is a road taken from the Shipka peak, and the other one starts from the Stara Zagora – Rousse highway, just after Kazanlak. The monument’s majestic appearance was recognized by the ranking in the list of most beautiful abandoned places worldwide. More about Buzluzdha monument
