Picturesque Koprivshtitsa welcomes with olden atmosphere, seeming to stop time and return it to several centuries ago. Its houses are unique, its streets are steeped in history. The cathedral church, the St. Nicholas church, the ossuary of citizens who died in the April uprising in 1876, and many more spots and nooks charm and welcome with information from old times of history, telling glorious tales. The characteristic revival style architecture of the six museum houses is the logo of Koprivshtitsa.
Another trait characterizing Koprivshtitsa is the profusion of water fountains built in different periods. Their stone façades are picturesque. In summer their cold mountain water flowing in profusion is the best refreshment.
Over Koprivstitsa rises Bogdan, the highest peak in the Sredna Gora mountain. also a mountain reserve. Another reserve, Vurtopa, is also nearby, in the central part of the Balkans. The Balkans and the Sredna Gora offer plenty of trails.
Starosel, a village in South Bulgaria, near Hissar, is famed for the ancient Thracian tombs and temples. They were discovered by eminent Bulgarian archeologist Georgi Kitov. The Thracian complex, uncovered in 2000, is the largest so far discovered Thracian complex cum mausoleum. The stone fence is imposing, the parade staircase and the cult site also impress. The inside is huge, with 4.80 meters in diameter. To the north, a stone trough for wine making and storage is seen, with an elliptical base.
Near the stone edifice, an empty grave was unearthed, with three separate pits around, featuring rich donations, vessels, horse riding gear, and weapons.
The Horizont hill has a tomb with 10 columns, where obviously an eminent Thracian aristocrat was buried. The tomb was robbed still in ancient times, but yet some silver and gold vessels have been found. Nine more hills belong with the Starosel area, researched and conserved
