Details about Dobarsko Village

Dobarsko, a village in southeast Bulgaria, belongs to the municipality of Razlog. Rila welcomes it in its folds. The regional center, Blagoevgrad, is 70 kilometers away. Bansko, another fascinating mountain town, is 17 kilometers away. The Klinoshtitsa river flows through the area surrounding Dobarsko, and its tributary Klinets flows through the village.

In 2001, remains of an ancient Roman furnace for bricks and tiles were discovered in the area, from the 3-4centuries AD. The Germanitsa locality spreads high over Dobarsko. In the past, it was called Nedobarsko, and changed its name several times.

In the past, until the end of the eighteenth century, Dobarsko was an economically leading center for the Razlog Valley. Large and numerous cattle herds were bred, and the Dobarsko merchants exported cotton for Europe.

Now, in the picturesque mountain village, the Saints Teodor Tiron and Teodor Stratilat church is a precious site. It was built in 1614.

More about Razlog and the Area

Razlog is in the valley which gave its name to it. Before 1925 it was called Mehomia. Three mountains meet there: Rila, Pirin and the Rhodope. They all offer mountain panoramas and lure for walks and hikes amid grandeur formed by lush forests and stern stones. To the south is Bansko, another mountain town and ski resort. To the southeast is Dobrinishte, a village from which trails start up the mountains.

The Yavorov chalet is near Razlog, in the Pirin mountain. It is 14 kilometers away.

The local cuisine is scrumptious, with kapama comprising different kinds of meat. Another local specialty, the shupla, is a kind of pastry with cheese similar to pancakes. Dairy products are produced in Razlog, and meat products are characteristic of the area too.

The New Year carnival is one of Razlog’s famous traits. The whole town takes active part in it, wearing costumes and competing for prizes.
